The Daily Variety, a Hollywood trade newspaper, is involved in what seems like an on-going battle with The Vandals since 2004. The cover of their album, Hollywood Potato Chip, which was released in '04, donned the band's name in lettering made to look like The Daily Variety logo...
'Reed Elsevier, Variety's parent company, sent a cease and desist letter and ultimately worked out a settlement with the band, which agreed to change the cover art and stop using the Variety-esque lettering. If the band members breached the deal, they agreed to pay $50,000 plus attorneys fees.' According to Yahoo! Music.
Sounds like the end of the fued right? Wrong. Now, since April of this year, The Daily Variety insists that The Vandals have breached their contract by using the logo on a website for the band and their label.
The lawsuit is still pending but the band is convinced that The Daily Variety is over reacting and just wants to gain money for no reason. They have posted all of the court documents on their website and are hosting a fundraiser concert to raise money for the case.
